    The detail

Fireworks season is the worst time of year for a lot of dogs. The bangs, the whistles, the flashes, and a dog that's shaking behind the sofa for hours. The Big Hush is a soft, snug calming hood that covers your dog's ears to muffle loud, sudden noises. The gentle, even pressure around the head is reassuring, a bit like a comforting hug.

It's simple, quiet to put on, and keeps your dog's face completely free, so they can still see, eat, drink and settle down.

    Why owners love it

    • Muffles loud noises: padded three-layer ear flaps (polyester, neoprene, polyester) sit over the ears to soften bangs and sudden sounds
    • Gentle, calming pressure: the stretchy, snug fit around the head helps many anxious dogs feel more secure
    • Quiet velcro neck strap: adjusts for a secure fit, with a softer fastening that's quieter than standard velcro, so it won't startle a nervous dog
    • Face stays free: eyes, nose and mouth uncovered, so they can still see, eat, drink and settle
    • Waterproof and wipe-clean ear flaps
    • 3 colours: Grey, Rose Red and Blue

    Not just for fireworks

    • Thunderstorms and noisy neighbours
    • Grooming and blow-drying: keeps the dryer noise down and stops long ears flapping
    • Bath time: helps keep water out of the ears
    • Vet visits, car journeys and busy places

    Sizing

Measure your dog's head circumference: run a soft tape over the top of the head, across the ears and under the chin, the way the hood will sit. Use that measurement to pick your size. Weight is only a rough guide.

    • Small: head 25–38cm, approx. 7.5–17.5kg. Cocker Spaniel, Beagle, Westie, French Bulldog
    • Medium: head 35–48cm, approx. 17.5–30kg. Springer Spaniel, Border Collie, Staffy, Boxer
    • Large: head 45–60cm, approx. 30–42.5kg. Labrador, Golden Retriever, German Shepherd

If your dog is between sizes, go by the head measurement and choose the larger size. The hood is very stretchy: if you can fit four fingers under it, it's not too tight. Not suitable for very small breeds under 7.5kg.

    Advanced FAQ

Will it make my dog completely silent to the world?
No. It muffles and softens noise rather than blocking it entirely, so your dog can still hear you. Paired with a quiet, cosy spot, closed curtains and some background TV or music, it can make a big difference for many dogs.

My dog has never worn anything on its head. Will it accept it?
Introduce it a few days before fireworks night. Put it on for a minute or two with treats and praise, then build up. Dogs that are used to it before the bangs start tend to accept it much more easily.

How long can my dog wear it?
For the duration of the noise, such as a fireworks evening or a storm. Always supervise your dog while it's wearing the hood, and take it off once things are quiet.

Is it a substitute for vet advice?
No. For dogs with severe noise phobia, speak to your vet as well. The hood is a comfort aid that works best alongside other calming steps.

    How do I wash it?
Hand wash or a gentle cool machine wash, then air dry. Fasten the velcro first so it doesn't snag.
