Scooping the litter box every single day, dealing with the smell, worrying about what happens if you're away overnight — The Big Clean solves all three at once. It's a genuine self-cleaning, app-controlled litter box that automatically rakes waste into a sealed compartment after your cat uses it, and can go up to 15 days without you needing to touch it.

This isn't a gimmick box with a motor bolted on — it's built around real safety engineering (4 separate weight sensors that stop the rotation the moment they detect your cat, plus a pinch-resistant non-drawer design) and genuine daily-life usefulness (one-touch cleaning and sand changes from your phone, from anywhere).

Every setting, mode and troubleshooting step explained in detail — including app setup, litter calibration, odour removal, child lock and full cleaning instructions.

How it actually works

  • Automatic raking — after your cat leaves, the drum rotates to sift waste into a sealed, odour-locked compartment underneath
  • 4x weight sensors — if your cat re-enters or another pet approaches, rotation stops immediately; this is a genuine safety feature, not marketing
  • Pinch-resistant, non-drawer design — the mechanism is built to avoid the pinch risk that some older-style automatic litter boxes have
  • App control (2.4GHz WiFi only) — one-touch cleaning, one-touch sand change, scheduled regular cleaning, and usage tracking from your phone
  • Up to 15 days hands-off — the waste compartment is sized to genuinely go this long between empties for a single cat under normal use

Litter compatibility — please read before ordering

Works well with: Tofu litter, Bentonite litter, Mineral litter, and Mixed litter.

Not compatible with: Crystal litter, long-strip Pine litter, or long-strip Tofu litter — these can interfere with the rotation mechanism. Litter particles should be no larger than 3mm diameter and 15mm length for reliable operation.

Easy to clean

The unit breaks down into 4 main components — the barrel, front baffle, litter funnel, and bottom tray — each removable in two simple steps for a proper clean when you want one, on top of the automatic day-to-day operation.

Size

Entry opening: 24.5cm diameter. Base height: 15cm. A genuinely roomy interior suited to most adult cats.

Recommended setup

Pairs well with The Big Splash water fountain for a fully automated feeding-and-litter routine that takes real daily pressure off you.

Full User Manual — Setup & Every Function Explained

Everything below is taken directly from the official manual, so you can find an answer instantly without hunting through a PDF. Tap any section to expand it.

Placement & power on

Placement: Place the litter box on a hard, flat surface with all four feet touching the ground. Leave at least 70cm of height clearance and 80cm of depth clearance above and behind the unit so the waste bin can open fully. If you need to move it, unplug it first and move the whole unit via the clasp under the base — never lift or move it by the barrel alone.

Power on & self-test: Use the original adapter only, and make sure the socket supplies a stable voltage. The unit completes a self-test within 6 minutes of being powered on. Auto mode is enabled by default once the self-test finishes, and the Auto lamp lights up — the box is then ready for normal use.

Safety note: Don't move the box while it's powered on. Lifting it for more than 5 seconds triggers the gravity protection lock, which pauses all cleaning and litter-replacement actions until you either manually level the litter or wait 30 minutes for an automatic recalibration.

Adding litter & calibrating the surface

Adding litter: Add litter through the entrance up to the MAX line marked on the grey soft section inside the barrel — going over this can cause spillage and litter filtering into the mechanism. For day-to-day top-ups, keep it closer to the MIN line, which reduces litter sticking to the base.

Levelling: After adding litter (0.6kg or more), press and hold "Remove Odour" for 2 seconds to smooth the litter, then carry out any further actions.

Sand surface calibration: Different litters sit differently in the barrel. In the app, open Settings and select "Sand surface calibration." The default value is 3 on a 0–6 scale — increase it if the right side of the litter surface (facing the box) sits low, decrease it if the left side sits low. After each single-point adjustment, press "Remove Odour" for 2 seconds to re-level and check the surface is horizontal.

Connecting the app (Tuya)
  1. Download the "Tuya" app from your phone's App Store.
  2. Confirm your phone is connected to 2.4GHz WiFi (not 5GHz), then turn on Bluetooth and Location.
  3. Open the Tuya app and tap "Add device."
  4. Press and hold "Auto" on the panel for 2 seconds — the WiFi lamp will start flashing, meaning the box is trying to connect.
  5. Once connected, enter the app to access all remote controls and settings.

If the app won't connect: double-check you're on 2.4GHz not 5GHz, confirm phone Bluetooth is on, check the WiFi lamp is flashing during connection, make sure your home WiFi is working normally, re-check your WiFi password, and make sure your router isn't overloaded with too many connected devices.

Auto Clean & Timing Clean

Auto Clean: Press "Auto" to turn on Auto Clean — the box will automatically clean itself once your cat leaves. The default wait time before cleaning is 3 minutes, with a 15-minute gap enforced between two cleans. Both are adjustable in the app (wait time 0–60 min, gap 0–120 min).

Important: if you have kittens under 1kg or a pregnant cat, use manual "Clean" only and don't use Auto Clean mode, since the weight sensors are calibrated for adult cats.

Timing Clean: Set a scheduled cleaning start time and cycle via the app, for households that prefer a fixed routine over reactive auto-cleaning.

Manual Clean: Tap "Clean" to trigger an immediate clean. Make sure your cat isn't in the barrel first — the unit calibrates weight before cleaning, and won't run if it detects your cat inside.

Removing odour & Do Not Disturb

Remove Odour: Tap "Remove Odour" to start a 30-minute odour removal cycle using the built-in ion purification module (this produces a small, safety-standard-compliant amount of O₃). You can also schedule regular odour removal times via the app.

Do Not Disturb: Set quiet hours in the app. During this window the panel display and lights go dark and Auto Clean is disabled, so the box won't run noisily overnight. Any scheduled cleans or odour-removal cycles already queued will finish first before Do Not Disturb takes effect.

Child lock & infrared sensor

Child lock: Press "Auto" + "Remove Odour" together for 2 seconds to lock the panel — the box keeps running its programmed schedule, but the physical buttons are disabled. Press the same combination again to unlock. Can also be toggled from the app; unlocking the panel doesn't affect app control.

Infrared sensor: Off by default. If turned on, it may trigger frequently near reflective flooring (bright tiles, glass) within roughly 30cm of the unit — if that happens, either disable the sensor or reposition the box.

Replacing the waste bag

Press "Clean" for 2 seconds — the bin rotates to the bag-changing angle and stays there for 60 seconds. Remove the used bag, wrap the new bag's opening around the bin's door frame, pull the drawstring through, press it into the tie-up clip, tighten, and wind it closed. Finish by tucking the bag's back edge out of the way of the lid and confirming the buckle is fastened before running the unit again.

Full indicator: The Full lamp is a reference-only prompt — if it lights early or late for your litter type, you can recalibrate the "capacity calibration" range in app settings (0–7 for tofu/mixed litter, 5–10 for bentonite, 8–15 for mineral).

Replace the bag roughly every 3 days in summer and every 7 days in winter for hygiene, or sooner in a multi-cat household.

Replacing all the litter & deep cleaning

Replace litter: Fit a new waste bag first, then press "Replace litter" for 2 seconds. The box collects all remaining litter from the barrel into the bag for you, ready for a full clean or a barrel move.

Cleaning & installation: Empty the barrel and waste bin, disconnect power, open the barrel buckle and lift it off. The barrel and waste bin can be washed with water — but the base must never be washed, since it houses the electrical components; wipe it with a damp cloth only. After cleaning, dry everything, reinstall the barrel into its fixed slot, close the buckle, confirm the waste bin is shut, then power back on and wait for the self-test before resuming use.

Do not remove the filter or the grey soft padding inside the barrel during cleaning, and if you remove the yellow rubber plug (for the urine-leakage vent) to clean it, remember to refit it afterwards.

Panel lights — what they mean
  • Fault lamp: the barrel isn't installed correctly or can't rotate normally — check the barrel fit and buckle.
  • Full lamp: the waste bin is nearly full — replace the bag.
  • WiFi lamp: solid = connected, flashing = connecting, off = not connected.
  • Power lamp: solid = powered on.

Advanced FAQ

How often do I need to empty it?
Up to 15 days for a single cat under normal use, though this varies with how often your cat uses it and how much you're able to let the compartment fill before emptying.

What litter can I use?
Tofu, Bentonite, Mineral, or Mixed litter work well. Avoid Crystal litter and long-strip Pine or Tofu litter, as these can interfere with the rotation mechanism. Litter particles should be under 3mm diameter and 15mm length.

Is it safe if my cat goes back in while it's cleaning?
Yes — it has 4 separate weight sensors that detect your cat (or any pet) approaching or re-entering, and the rotation stops immediately. This is a genuine safety mechanism, not just a marketing claim.

Does it work with any WiFi?
It only supports 2.4GHz WiFi, not 5GHz. Most home routers broadcast both, but if yours is 5GHz-only, you'll need to check your router settings before setup.

Is it loud?
Reviewers describe it as quiet in operation — several verified reviews specifically mention "quiet operation" as a highlight.

How do I clean it properly, not just the automatic cleaning?
It disassembles into 4 main parts (barrel, front baffle, litter funnel, bottom tray) in two simple steps, so you can give it a proper clean whenever you want one.

Can I control it if I'm not home?
Yes, that's the main point of the app control — one-touch cleaning, sand changes, and scheduling all work remotely as long as the unit's connected to WiFi.

Is it suitable for multiple cats?
It can be used by multiple cats, though the 15-day hands-off window will naturally shorten with more frequent use — you'll want to check and empty it more often in a multi-cat household.

What size cat is it suitable for?
The 24.5cm entry opening and roomy interior suit most adult cats. If you have an unusually large breed, it's worth checking your cat's measurements against the entry opening first.
