Most car anxiety in a small pet is not the motion — it is being down in a footwell with no idea what is happening. Raise them to where they can see out and a lot of it goes.
Strapped to the headrest
Fastens firmly rather than sliding about on the seat, and the raised structured sides discourage climbing out or being thrown around on corners.
Mesh panel, wipe clean
A mesh side keeps air moving so it does not get stuffy on a warm day, and the fabric wipes down after muddy paws. Folds flat when you are not travelling.
What it does and doesn't do
Loose in the cabin, or shaking in the footwell
Neither is good, and for a small dog or a cat both are the norm. Down at floor level they cannot see out, the movement makes no sense to them, and the whole journey is something to endure. Lifted to window height, most of them settle within a couple of trips.
One thing to be clear about: this is a booster that contains your pet and keeps them off the floor, not a crash-tested restraint. If you want them properly secured in an accident, use a travel harness alongside it — the two do different jobs and it is worth having both.
