Made to be carried about
Some dogs have no interest in fetch or tug and just want something to pick up and take with them. A drumstick shape is exactly the thing they want to be seen holding.

Not every dog wants to play fetch
Plenty have no interest in a ball and get bored of tug in a minute. What they want is something to carry — to the door when you come in, to the sofa, out into the garden and back. A toy for that job only has to be the right size, the right softness, and worth showing off.
