The standard lick mat is a flat square with a single pattern moulded into it. It works the first few times and then stops being interesting, because there is nothing left to discover — and it only ever solved one problem anyway.
The Big Spread puts four different surfaces in one tray. Cats tend to use the honeycomb and bowl zones most; dogs get the most out of the maze and honeycomb. The base grips tile, laminate and sealed wood well, but it is not a suction mount — a really determined pusher may still shift it.
