The sides and the bumper too
A flat mat protects the floor and nothing else. Side flaps cover the boot walls where a wet dog shakes, and the bumper flap takes the claw marks when they scramble in and out.
Three layers, not one
Woven outer, padded middle, waterproof backing. The padding is why it does not slide about like a plastic sheet, and the backing is why nothing reaches the carpet.
Stays where you put it
Headrest straps hold the back panel up and a non-slip backing grips the floor, so it does not concertina into the corner the first time your dog turns around.
Why a liner rather than a blanket
The mud never only lands on the floor
A blanket in the boot moves. Your dog jumps in, turns twice, and it is a heap in one corner with the carpet exposed underneath — which is the bit you were trying to protect. And a mat, however good, does nothing about the two things that actually get filthy: the boot walls a wet dog shakes against, and the painted bumper lip they scramble over.
The Big Rover is cut as a cross rather than a rectangle. The centre covers the floor, a panel goes up over the back of the rear seats, 36cm flaps drop down each side wall, and a fourth panel hangs over the bumper. Lay it in, clip the headrest straps, and the whole loading area is covered by one piece you can lift out and hose down.

Measure your boot floor across at its narrowest point — if that is 105cm or less, the centre panel covers it fully and the flaps drop down the side walls as intended. On a wider boot the flaps sit flatter and cover less of the walls, but the floor is still protected. The 180cm length is the whole cross laid flat, covering the seat-back, the floor and the bumper together.

Will it fit my car?
Measure your boot floor across at its narrowest point. At 105cm the centre panel covers most SUV, estate and large hatchback boots fully, with the 36cm flaps dropping down each side wall. The whole piece is 180cm laid flat, which covers the back of the rear seats, the floor and the bumper together. On a boot wider than 105cm the floor is still covered but the flaps sit flatter against the sides.
Does it cover the sides and the bumper, or just the floor?
All of it. It's cut as a cross, not a rectangle — a panel up over the back of the rear seats, the floor in the middle, a 36cm flap down each side wall, and a fourth panel over the bumper lip. The bumper flap is the one people notice most, because that's where the paint gets scratched when a dog scrambles in.
How is it made?
Three-ply: a woven outer, a padded middle layer and a waterproof backing, quilted through and finished with bound hemmed edges. The padding is what stops it sliding about like a plastic sheet, and the backing is what stops anything reaching your carpet.
How do I clean it after a muddy walk?
Wipe it down in the boot, or lift the whole thing out and hose it off. The waterproof backing means mud, wet fur and drool stay on the surface rather than soaking through.
Will it slip around when my dog moves?
Two things hold it. The headrest straps buckle over the rear headrests to keep the back panel up, and the non-slip backing grips the boot floor. Between them it stays put when a dog jumps in and turns round.
Is it comfortable for my dog to stand on?
Yes — the padded middle layer gives it some cushioning underfoot, and the edges are bound rather than raw, so there's nothing sharp for paws on a longer drive.
